Can You Get Herpes on Your Hand? Symptoms and Treatment

Herpes on the hands is a problem caused by herpes simplex virus, and is characterized by painful injuries that may affect hands, inches and fingers, but also feet and nail clippers of the feet. Herpes in the hands (also known as herpetic pathetsis) is a common problem especially among healthcare professionals (especially dentists) who may experience infected lesions in the mouth of the patients, but can also manifest themselves in direct contact with oral secretions.

Symptoms of Herpes on Your Hand:

  • Exposure to skin rashes on your fingers and hands
  • Light fever especially in very small children
  • The lesions appear on the tip of the fingers and close to the nails, or even on the palms of the hands
  • Pain in the area where the injuries are located, which may last until the lesions do not heal

Typically lesions heal within two to three weeks, even without medical care. Treatments for herpes on the hands consist of the administration of anti-viral drugs, which will be taken orally until all lesions are healed.

Pain in the hands caused by injuries can be kept under control by cold packs or taking pain medication. Also, it is important to keep the injuries clean, avoid breaking them, and to wash their hands regularly to prevent the spread of the virus. Finally, it is important to remember that infected patients do not have to share food, cutlery, crockery, towels, and bath towels with other people.
