How to cope with everyday life better? How to optimize the potential? How do you get success?
These are just some of the crucial questions that modern man arises, on which each school of thought has tried to respond.
But what is the approach to the subject according to the so-called “positive thinking” very common for some years now?
The Principal of positive thinking
According to this system, and many others related to it, the thoughts play a predominant role in determining the fulfillment of desires or, however, the serenity. Therefore, the thoughts would influence the reality transitively so that, by changing the substance, it is possible to act directly on our attitude towards the world.
This assumption is not unlike many other philosophies, so now let’s focus on the heart of positive thinking: think central positivity of the thoughts (not only the quality) to achieve the goals coming to bankroll the mind with affirmations and nature optimistic slogans aside aspects negative of reality.
A very pop level, we find an example in certain motivational courses, in books such as The Secret (and its law of attraction, years ago widely known), in characters like the famous Luise Hay. All this work on the mind is therefore close to the meditation that many times you have proposed? They are two worlds meet?
Let’s find out together.
The spread of positive thinking: trivializing and false beliefs
I do not have the skills to analyze the power of positive thinking from the psychological point of view; certain is that a large slice of the web not rendered a great service: it is very common to run into sites that offer positive thinking in “5 moves / 10 min / 4 statements” trivializing all the work, probably full-bodied, many insiders.
I had first hand only on “The Secret” text and found it an embarrassing superficiality enough to dissuade me from continuing on that path.
Finally, just a few days ago, came out a very interesting article about the weekly L’Espresso that invites you to beware of “An unreasonable optimism that can result in a superficial attitude, or stubbornness to deny a truth unwelcome, as the fact of not having prepared properly. ”
This introduction is intended to resize a phenomenon that seems unstoppable rise, probably the son of a certain aptitude widespread laziness in this fast time and material: you seek pre-digested happiness recipes, easy roads and without the great work on oneself that any internal revolution necessarily required.
I admit, therefore, to look at this area with certain diffidence, though leaving him to stay proceedings who is more competent. I feel much more at ease in the way of traditional meditation course also focuses on the contents of the mind (and in this perhaps comes close to the so-called “positive thinking”), but then implements a substantial tack.
The differences between positive thinking and meditation
Meditation does not offer shortcuts or slogan to be repeated to convince himself of something; cuts precisely the stage of judgment of reality, considering it fatuous, merely silent observation. It is not resolved in a few steps or a few minutes of practice, but it requires a real training and just hoping to discipline the restlessness of the mind.
If we want to use a metaphor, meditation is a sea that embraces all life, even the suffering love, the bitter disappointments, the hardest humiliations without any repress: the optics is not to be trivially optimistic or happy, but to awaken a deep awareness and sincere acceptance of life without anger or resentment.
We understand, therefore, how the pasta of the two practices is totally different, the combination of one another forced and often done for marketing reasons: it is easy to find “Meditations for positive thinking” in the sense that there is much to discuss.
Meditation and positive thinking, albeit accumunate from taking into account the contents of the mind, there appear source practices, essentially irreconcilable objectives.
The hard way of the work on oneself
We believe it is always interesting to learn any discipline or school invitations to look within, be it philosophical, holistic, religious, and shamanic: the work on yourself can reveal unthinkable paths, inspirations totally unexpected, sudden epiphanies.
With the same enthusiasm we invite but also to assess the content of these approaches, in seeing the easy solutions, the “miracles” performed by low cost: it is very rare that personal growth takes place in a few moves, superficially or casually.
It is usually the result of a patient work, durable and also hard on the deepest of ourselves: a long winter that gives a sweet spring.
