Nausea and Vomiting in Pregnancy: How Children Will Be Smarter?

Nausea and Vomiting in Pregnancy

Nausea and vomiting are really annoying during pregnancy and risk ruining one of the most beautiful moments in a woman’s life. These annoying disorders, which in most cases are present in the first months of pregnancy, do not always come to harm. A Canadian study has shown that women who suffer from these symptoms during the 9 months, which often do not help them enjoy this important period, will benefit from these problems. In fact, according to the researchers, those suffering from nausea and vomiting during pregnancy will have smarter children.

Nausea and vomiting in pregnancy? The smartest children: the research

The study was conducted by Toronto Sick Children and led by researcher Irena Nulman. The researchers contacted 120 women who had a pregnancy in the past 7 to 3 years.

Mothers were asked if they had suffered from morning sickness and vomit. Thirty of these women have revealed that they have not had any similar problems during the 9 months and therefore have not suffered any nausea and vomiting during pregnancy. The remaining mothers have revealed that they have suffered, more or less, these disorders during pregnancy

Their children, all aged between 3 and 7 years, have been subjected to intelligence tests. The highest score was obtained from the children of mothers who suffered from nausea and vomiting during pregnancy. According to the researchers there is a precise motivation that explains this correlation.

Because the children of those who suffered from nausea and vomiting during pregnancy are more intelligent.

The researchers concluded that nausea and vomiting during pregnancy could be the consequence of hormones such as chorionic gonadotropin and tyrosine, which are hormones that during the 9 months are produced at high levels to keep the placenta healthy.

According to the researchers, these hormones, which are therefore higher in women who suffer from these disorders during pregnancy, would protect the brain of the fetus that is forming. So these hormones protect the brain even better, so that this develops better.

So do not worry if during the first months of pregnancy, nausea and vomiting seem to give us no respite. These disorders can be very annoying and do not make the most of such a beautiful period.

But everything has a price: mothers who suffer from nausea and vomiting will have smarter children!
