Cheek:

Visual inspection: Pull the cheek with your fingers for wounds, bleeding, white, dark or red spots.

Palpation: with your index finger, scan the entire length of the cheek for lumps, hardening and numb areas.

 

Lips:

 

Visual inspection: Look for wounds and color changes on the lips and corners of the mouth. Pull the lower lip with your fingers down, looking for wounds, bleeds and white, dark or reddish spots. Do the same with your upper lip.

Palpation: with your index finger and thumb in the form of a forceps, palpate the entire extension of the lip for lumps, hardening and numb areas.

 

Visual inspection: Place all tongue outward looking at back (upper portion). Look for white, dark or reddish wounds, bleeds and blemishes. Pull your tongue to look at the side edges, looking for wounds, bleeding and white, dark or red spots.

Palpation: With pincer index fingers and thumb, palpate the entire length of the lip for lumps, hardening and numb areas.

 

Oral floor:

Visual inspection: Place the tongue on the roof of the mouth (palate) and check for bleeding and white, dark or red spots.

Palpation: With the index finger of one hand and the thumb of the other hand, palpate the entire length of the buccal floor for lumps, hardening and numb areas.

 

Palate:

Visual inspection: Tilt your head back, open your mouth wide and look for sores or blemishes.

Palpation: with the index finger palpates the entire length of the palate looking for lumps and dormant areas. (Women’s Handbag)
